Dax walks & more!

Dax took his first steps on his own earlier this week! It was really cool! He has also added "Mama" to his 13 month old vocabulary (which includeds "What's that?", "Dad", "Uhhh-Ohhhh", "Mooo", and "Dog"). He is a little chatterbox! :)

So, on to a few cute Derek stories:
* Derek says "me's go to the store and buy a new one" when he breaks something. When asked where he'll get the $, he says" in my pocket". When Doug asked him this week, where he was going to get his money since he didn't have any pockets on his pants, he said "PamPaw, in my ear!" Now he thinks that $$$ just appears out of his ears.... Thanks, Dad! :)

*Today is cousin Bode's third birthday and Derek got to talk to him on the phone(all the way in South Africa) & sing "Happy Birthday" to him. Derek did it again for us tonight and also showed us how he plans on singing to Uncle Royce. Then he blew out his pretend candles for Bode. It was cute... Then he said "And many more..." SOOOOOOOOOOO sweet!

*Derek has been doing many big boy things at my command: trying to use the big boy potty and sleeping in his big boy bead. He has now decided he doesn't want to be a big boy & walks around saying he is a baby. He is also no longer napping and climbing in his closet during his "rest time". What a two year old!!!

Making a Diapers and Wipes Wristlet

I have a great way to make a super cute diaper and wipes wristlet & I wanted to share!

You'll need about a 1/3 yard of 2 coordinating fabrics (or 1/4 yard if you don't want a wristlet handle).

1. Cut an 8 inch strip of 45" or wider fabric.
2. Then cut 3 pieces of each coordinating fabric:
* 8" x 16" (for main body)
* 8" x 12" (for wipes pocket)
* 8" x 11" (for diaper pocket)

3. Building the pocket for diapers.

a) fold the fabric that you want on the outside in half, lengthwise, and finger press.
b) open up fabric and pin piece of velcro about 1 inch down from edge of fabric and stitch with zigzag stitch.

c) Pin interior fabric to exterior fabric, right sides together. Stitch 1/4" seam.

d) Press seam open.
e) Flip open and press again.
f) Top stitch 1/4" from top of pocket

4. Main Body, Interior piece:

a) Fold 8 x 16 piece of interior fabric in half, to make a 4 x 16 piece. Finger press.

b) Pin velcro in center, about 1" down from edge of fabric. Sew with zigzag stitch.
c) Pin "diaper pocket" to main body interior piece and set aside.

5. Making the wipes pocket:
a) Fold the 8 x 12 inch piece in half & finger press.
b) Fold in half the other direction & finger press.
c) Mark center with dot.
d) Measure your wipes opening: my was approx 3 x 4 1/2.
Mark those dots on your circle.
e) Place lid of wipes case in center of dots and trace.
f) Place interior fabric on exterior piece, right sides together and pin.
g) stitch seam right outside of drawn line
h) cut out inside of seam, leaving 1/4 " of fabric
i) clip notches to allow fabric to lay flat once turned inside out
j) turn inside out and press
k) topstich 1/4" from edge of circle.
l) fold down edge of interior fabric & exterior fabric 1/2"
m) pin velcro on top of folded interior fabric and stitch in place
n) pin to folded down exterior fabric and top stitch

6. Main Body, exterior piece:
a) place wipes pocket on lower portion of the 8 x 16 main body exterior piece (leaving approx 4 inches above)

b) use piece of velcro on wipes pocket to place other velcro piece on exterior piece, pin & stitch in place

The rest to come soon!!! :)
