Halloween 2008

So, blogging hasn't been my strong suit these last few months!!!
I wanted to make sure to post some pics from tonight...
Both boys had a blast!!!
Derek ran from house to house with this huge group of kids and loved saying "Trick-or-Treat" and getting candy! He also noticed when the moon came up & evidently sang "Twinkle,Twinkle" at the top of his lungs when he saw a star (I was dealing with camera issues at that time) in the night sky. He also decided we were in a forest when he ran into a limb that was over hanging the side walk and started looking for other dinosaurs in the forest.

Dax was not to be left out! Whenever we got to a door and the other kids were getting candy, Dax would shout out and make sure the person handing out candy didn't forget him. He had lots of fun and at all times seemed to have a fully wrapped piece of candy in his mouth!

Well, I hope you enjoy the pics!

Dax walks & more!

Dax took his first steps on his own earlier this week! It was really cool! He has also added "Mama" to his 13 month old vocabulary (which includeds "What's that?", "Dad", "Uhhh-Ohhhh", "Mooo", and "Dog"). He is a little chatterbox! :)

So, on to a few cute Derek stories:
* Derek says "me's go to the store and buy a new one" when he breaks something. When asked where he'll get the $, he says" in my pocket". When Doug asked him this week, where he was going to get his money since he didn't have any pockets on his pants, he said "PamPaw, in my ear!" Now he thinks that $$$ just appears out of his ears.... Thanks, Dad! :)

*Today is cousin Bode's third birthday and Derek got to talk to him on the phone(all the way in South Africa) & sing "Happy Birthday" to him. Derek did it again for us tonight and also showed us how he plans on singing to Uncle Royce. Then he blew out his pretend candles for Bode. It was cute... Then he said "And many more..." SOOOOOOOOOOO sweet!

*Derek has been doing many big boy things at my command: trying to use the big boy potty and sleeping in his big boy bead. He has now decided he doesn't want to be a big boy & walks around saying he is a baby. He is also no longer napping and climbing in his closet during his "rest time". What a two year old!!!

Making a Diapers and Wipes Wristlet

I have a great way to make a super cute diaper and wipes wristlet & I wanted to share!

You'll need about a 1/3 yard of 2 coordinating fabrics (or 1/4 yard if you don't want a wristlet handle).

1. Cut an 8 inch strip of 45" or wider fabric.
2. Then cut 3 pieces of each coordinating fabric:
* 8" x 16" (for main body)
* 8" x 12" (for wipes pocket)
* 8" x 11" (for diaper pocket)

3. Building the pocket for diapers.

a) fold the fabric that you want on the outside in half, lengthwise, and finger press.
b) open up fabric and pin piece of velcro about 1 inch down from edge of fabric and stitch with zigzag stitch.

c) Pin interior fabric to exterior fabric, right sides together. Stitch 1/4" seam.

d) Press seam open.
e) Flip open and press again.
f) Top stitch 1/4" from top of pocket

4. Main Body, Interior piece:

a) Fold 8 x 16 piece of interior fabric in half, to make a 4 x 16 piece. Finger press.

b) Pin velcro in center, about 1" down from edge of fabric. Sew with zigzag stitch.
c) Pin "diaper pocket" to main body interior piece and set aside.

5. Making the wipes pocket:
a) Fold the 8 x 12 inch piece in half & finger press.
b) Fold in half the other direction & finger press.
c) Mark center with dot.
d) Measure your wipes opening: my was approx 3 x 4 1/2.
Mark those dots on your circle.
e) Place lid of wipes case in center of dots and trace.
f) Place interior fabric on exterior piece, right sides together and pin.
g) stitch seam right outside of drawn line
h) cut out inside of seam, leaving 1/4 " of fabric
i) clip notches to allow fabric to lay flat once turned inside out
j) turn inside out and press
k) topstich 1/4" from edge of circle.
l) fold down edge of interior fabric & exterior fabric 1/2"
m) pin velcro on top of folded interior fabric and stitch in place
n) pin to folded down exterior fabric and top stitch

6. Main Body, exterior piece:
a) place wipes pocket on lower portion of the 8 x 16 main body exterior piece (leaving approx 4 inches above)

b) use piece of velcro on wipes pocket to place other velcro piece on exterior piece, pin & stitch in place

The rest to come soon!!! :)

Derek's post nap costume!

I went in to get Derek from his "rest time", since he rarely takes a nap any longer.... He had his bean bag wedged into his closet & was trying to get stuff down. He was playing his kazooaphone and wearing underwear on his head!!! :) I had to get the camera...

Speaking of the camera, both boys love to look at the pics and Derek tries to take some... This is a picture he took of Dax & I the other day...

Also, Suzanne & Jacob came by to pick up their bows for the wedding... Sooooooooo exciting!!! I wanted to put a picture up of the bows also.

Bagels...

Every morning we get started with a yummy breakfast. Derek will usually have a banana with either cereal or oatmeal, a pancake or waffle, or a bagel. He usually has butter on his bagel, but we got some strawberry flavored cream cheese at HEB yesterday. Derek & Dax were both eating their bagels when Derek said, "I love bagels with bean & cheese". :)

"Why, Dax" & other funny stuff

The boys are down for the night & I needed to write a few stories down...

Derek is almost 2 1/2 and we are still assimilating him into "OUR" culture. He likes to beat up on Dax & so spends alot of time in TIME OUT. When he gets out of time out, he has to come and talk to me and I make him repeat "No Hitting, No Kicking, No Shoving", go and tell Dax sorry and give him a hug. Well, this last weekend he was having major issues keeping off of Dax and so I was trying to get Derek to tell Dax sorry after his umpf-teenth time of shoving him... I said" say sorry to Dax" and he said" Sorry, Dax." Then I said "And tell Dax why..." and he said "Why, Dax." Doug & I nearly fell to the floor laughing!!! He is sooooooooo cute & takes everything so literally.

This last week, he keeps on saying "Thanks, Mom" to everything that I do for him!!! Even when I put him in his crib for rest time, which is not his favorite time, he says "Thanks, Mom". 2 is such a special time!!! : ) I am very blessed!

We also go to see Nana & Papa today... We enjoyed getting to play with them and having lunch before they had to leave for Denver.

Also, I have sold 3 custom wedding art pieces in the last week!!!!!!!! How much does that rock?!?! I am having a blast with my etsy store... : )

Dax's Birthday party!

A little flash back to what Dax looked like when he first came home...

We had Dax's 1st Birthday party today & it was a blast!
I made some dog ears with a birthday crown & he looked super cute!
He ate his cake & ice cream slowly and really enjoyed it....
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it and thank you for all of the wonderful gifts!!! : )
I am a little sad because he is growing up so quickly... He won't be my "baby" for much longer.

Dax's revenge & I finished his birthday cake - a dog!

So, Dax finally had his first bit of revenge for a year of getting toys taken away and beaten up by his big brother. Derek & Dax were in the baby pool, Derek with floaties, a inflatable ring on, vroooooooming his trucks along the whole perimeter of the pool. Well, Dax was playing with a truck and Derek bumper-car-ed him out of the way & took his truck. Dax was mad and leaned over and chomped down on Derek's arm. Derek didn't cry!!! He gave me this shocked look & gave him back his truck... It was great!!! : )

Also, I finished his birthday cake... Since he loves dogs, we are having a dog party. I made him a super fun dog cake! I'll put a pic up...

Dax is 1 & What is going on in our world...

Hard to believe that Dax turns one today! I can't wait to sing Happy Birthday to him when he wakes up! I've got to get going on his little dog cake!

I am entering the contest at TrendyFabrics.com to who has the biggest fabric stash. My husband definately thinks it is me!!! I am soooooooooooo a fabricaholic!!! : )

I am working on some artwork for a customer right now. Lately I have been getting several custom orders, which rocks! I am thinking about creating some that are more standard as well, so that customers can buy what I have already created. We'll see!

Raising Boys : Farts & Computers

So, I am going to try to do this blogging thing a bit... All of these crazy, fun things keep happening and my brain is too full of creativity to keep it all in there!

Doug is my lovely husband and my two boys are Derek (2 1/2) and Dax (11mnths). Is that enough of an intro? Probably not, but Doug would most likely freak out about me writing anything about us & putting it online...

I started writing today so that I can write down a funny story that happened the other night. After dinner, Doug was laying on the couch & the boys were playing on the floor next to him. I came over to start getting the boys ready to head to the bath. Derek exclaims that he is going to "toot on Dax". Then he did. He then exclaimed "I toot on Dax!!!" After picking myself off the floor, I told him to go toot on Dad. He went over, sat on him, scrunched up his face & little bottom, and let a huge one rip! Doug was surprised and neither of us can believe that Derek can fart on command!!! Oh... the joy of raising little boys.

The other story happened that morning. After getting both boys changed and ready for the day, instead of heading downstairs for breakfast Derek runs over to the computer. I am calling after him & he is saying "Hold on... I'm coming." I come into the office area and Derek explains "Hold on... I have to check my mailbox." Oh, does he listen to his Daddy or what?!?! From the mouths of babes!
